Green Products by Qimonda

Taking Responsibility - Protecting the Environment

As the world’s leading creative memory company Qimonda cares about the impact that its products and manufacturing processes have on the environment. Therefore, Qimonda has always been and continues to be an industry leader in introducing environmentally friendly materials in the manufacturing of its products in compliance to international standards and laws.

The European Parliament, in tune with similar environmental initiatives worldwide, has initiated the RoHS (Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances) and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directives. The introduction of these directives has prompted a change in the materials and substances used across the semiconductor industry, and prompted the need for much greater transparency regarding material content of semiconductor products.

Qimonda Environmental Product Compliance Requirements (EPC-Requirements)

It is an ambition of Qimonda to avoid and reduce certain hazardous substances in products above and beyond statutory regulations. This effort has to be seen also in relation with the Qimonda Green Product Program.

Therefore the "Qimonda Environmental Product Compliance Requirements (Qimonda EPC-Requirements)" is to be applied in the design and production of environmentally compatible products of all business units of Qimonda and companies affiliated to Qimonda as well as for the procurement of articles and materials used in products distributed by Qimonda.

Non-Inclusion of Hazardous and Restricted Substances

All of Qimonda’s products, both memory components and modules, are compliant to the Directive 2002/95/EC. 1 According to Qimonda's  Declaration of Non-inclusion of Substances of Concern the actual concentrations in the products are well below the legal limits.

Qimonda is determined to shape the future of technology by fulfilling customer and legal demands as well as leading the way in environmentally friendly products and technologies. Therefore, Qimonda has developed its Green Product Program.

1)
Based on exemptions, the Pb-content in a homogeneous material level can exeed 1000 ppm. In this case, the product is not classified as Qimonda Green Product.
2) Sb 2O 3 is included for technical reason.
3) This refers to a declaration of elements and compounds. ACPEIP does not prohibit elements and compounds. ACPEIP is commonly referred to as "China RoHS".

4) This limitation includes also Decabromodiphenyl ether (decaBDE), see also the Declaration of Non-inclusion of Substances-of-Concern.

Qimonda's Green Product is compliant to the RoHS Directive 2002/95/EU (= EU-RoHS) per definition.

Qimonda Packaging Material Status

For us, responsibility does not end with the environmental compatibility of our products themselves, but we also ensure that the materials in which they are wrapped, packaged and shipped comply with latest environmental regulations. Therefore, in addition to our Green Product strategy on product level, the packaging materials of all Qimonda products comply with the tight regulations of the EU directive on packaging and packaging waste.
