Handling Guide for Memory Modules
Incorrect module handling often results in non-functional memory modules. The purpose of this
guideline is to illustrate proper handling i.e. how to hold a module and how to insert and remove a
module from a socket.
It is very important to follow this guideline for the handling of the memory modules. There are some ways to damage a memory module during insertion and removal. It is mandatory to switch off the motherboard before any insertion or removal of a memory module and to use an ESD strap.
The module insertion into a socket should be done carefully to avoid damage of either the socket
or the module. The different techniques for insertion and removing of DIMM, SO-DIMM and Micro-DIMM
modules are shown in the following documents.
